A quality addition to the Lennox line of hearth products
When Lennox Hearth Products absorbed the Superior Fireplace brand, it didn't just benefit from a greater quantity of products, but rather a lot of quality. Long before its incarnation as a Lennox line, Superior manufactured a wide assortment of wood burning fireplaces and gas fireplaces in a variety of styles, from front-view to a 2-sided view to three-sided and even see-through.
Today, Lennox's Superior brand carries 10 wood-burning fireplaces and 16 different gas fireplaces, all including a wide variety of finishes, mantels, optional and standard accessories. All Superior fireplaces are also covered by an extensive and respectable 20-year limited warranty.
Of Superior 's wood-burning units , the CST-38 see-through unit stands out as one-of-a-kind, while the HC36/42 model is singled out for consumer review. The reviews on the HC42 are not entirely positive, but they are dated and most likely, Lennox has sorted out the kinks with this one.

Superior HC 42 Wood-burning Fireplace
Consumers took the HC-42 to task in a few dated reviews, giving it a general thumbs down. On the plus side, reviewers said it was a good-looking unit, but that is where the advantages ended. On the downside, the HC-42 was roundly panned for a noisy blower, smoke puff back, and inefficient heat output.
However, Lennox is known for quality, and the Superior HC-42 has no doubt undergone improvements since the so-so reviews. This unit includes many standard features like black louvers, hidden screen pockets, heavy duty fuel grate, easy access outside air system and a choice between bi-fold or twin-pane glass doors.
Superior 's 16 gas fireplaces cover the spectrum in viewing styles (front-view, see-through, 3-sided peninsula) and venting options (top or rear direct vent, vent-free, and B-vent), to suit every taste and design need. Two units in particular show unique character and classic to contemporary styling. The SDDV-40 front-view direct vent is classically designed and offers a wide 40" viewing area.
